Cross Country Trip (Day 13) – Deception Pass, WA

Made it to the west coast...3,800 miles in 13 days

Let me start off with yesterday’s comment about Cicely Alaska. If it sounds familiar, you must have been a fan of Northern Exposure back in the mid-90s. I was. Cicely Alaska was the site of the show, however, Cicely Alaska was actually Roslyn Washington. That’s where we started off our day and had breakfast in the Roslyn Cafe (Roslyn’s Cafe in the show). If you watched the show, I’m sure you’ll recognize the photo below...the main difference is that instead of me, each episode began with a moose walking in from of the painting. Anyway, breakfast was good, I really enjoyed the flashback to Northern Exposure days, and Fay and I both really liked the town.

From there, we made our way up to Northwest Washington and ended up at Deception Pass State Park. It’s probably the nicest state park we’ve ever stayed in...really beautiful and we have a great campsite.

After our long drive, we are going to stay put here for a few days to relax a bit, then make the short drive to Point Roberts, Washington. It’s a small peninsula in the extreme northwest U.S. (ignoring Alaska), but in order to get to it, you have to cross the border in and back out of Canada.
