Tips to get started with a Travel Trailer or RV

As I sit here mid-winter...

Unfortunately, it's that slow time of the year when we don't get out much with our trailer. Even though we live in Florida where we could, all of the great campgrounds seem to be full this time of year with everyone escaping from winter up north. Unless you book far in advance, it's often difficult to find a good spot. But like always, I still have traveling with our Casita on my mind.

When we started thinking about getting a travel trailer, I spent hours doing research. Once we actually purchased our Casita, the research continued on everything we then needed to learn. All of the information was on the Internet, but it often took a lot of time to sort through all the various opinions. That's when I decided to create tinyTowable.com.

My goal from the beginning was to document everything we learned without including anybody else's opinions. Even if there were other solutions, I wanted people to know that everything on the site was information they could depend upon...nothing would go on there that we hadn't used for ourselves and decided that it worked out well. Furthermore, everything would be in one place, reducing the need to spend time searching all over for the right answer.

So in the last few years since I launched the website, I've made pretty good progress in two areas:

The Beginner's Guide to Small Travel Trailers

While it originally started out to be about small trailers, I've had many people write me, even those with large RVs, and tell me they found some really helpful information as they were getting started. Others have discovered a new tip here and there they didn't know about.

Our own personal Campground Reviews

Fay and I have written reviews about every place we've stayed in the last few years (now almost 70 of them). They all have photos, including most of them with photos of the bathhouse and showers.

I know I'm biased, but tinyTowable.com is a really good resource if you're just getting started or even still thinking about venturing into the world of RVs, Travel Trailers and camping. You might even find something new and useful if you already know what you're doing! Best of all, everything is free!

When you have some time, check out all my website has to offer. If you like what you find, please bookmark it so you can find it again, and maybe even share it with others. And by all means, if you have any questions, please send me a note.

After having spent most of our adult life in Orlando, my wife Fay and I moved to Knoxville, TN in 2020. We are loving the change of seasons and being near the mountains. Plus, this part of the country is loaded with great places to camp.

We camped years ago with a pop-up camper, but got serious about it when we purchased our Casita in 2014. There was a lot to learn as we started traveling with it, and a lot of conflicting opinions on line. That's when I decided that creating a website would be a good retirement project. I started tinyTowable.com to share things we've learned along the way that have worked well for us in hopes that the information would be of help to others.

However, since moving to Tennessee, I've gotten involved with new hobbies (you can check some out on my personal website at https://www.softrite.com) and we haven't camped very much. So, at the end of 2023, I made the tough decision to stop updating this website.
