Our Trip through New England - Maine and Vermont
We had big visions for New England and spent 6 days there. While we did get to spend three evenings with old friends in Maine that we really enjoyed, we ran into a few snags while we were there:
- First...I broke my eyeglasses and had to find a town with an optician that could fix them.
- Second...I ate a pound of steammed clams, and later found out that June is not a good time to do that. I got pretty sick for a few days.
- Third...It rained a lot!
Don't get me wrong. We really enjoyed our time there, but just didn't get to visit as many places as we had hoped. Other than visiting with our friends, here are a few things we really enjoyed in our short time there.
Boothbay Harbor Maine
Boothbay Harbor Maine
Boothbay Harbor was great! Having never been to Maine before, it was everything we had imagined in a quaint fishing village, with just enough tourist shops and restaurants to make it interesting. Our highlight was a great seafood lunch at a roof-top cafe called the Boat House Bistro. It provided us with a nice view of the entire harbor.

Vermont Inn
We wanted to find an inn, reminiscent of the Stratford Inn that Bob Newhart ran on his show. Well guess what? We found the inn that was actually used for his opening scene.
Vermont Inn
Welcome to The Waybury Inn in Middlebury, Vermont. The inside of the inn was never actually used on the TV show, but is as inviting as you would imagine. While the entire inn was great, it was the pub that we really fell in love with.

Vermont Countryside
Of our entire trip through New England, the sites along the old roads we traveled through the Vermont countryside were our favorite.

After having spent most of our adult life in Orlando, my wife Fay and I moved to Knoxville, TN in 2020. We are loving the change of seasons and being near the mountains. Plus, this part of the country is loaded with great places to camp.We camped years ago with a pop-up camper, but got serious about it when we purchased our Casita in 2014. There was a lot to learn as we started traveling with it, and a lot of conflicting opinions on line. That's when I decided that creating a website would be a good retirement project. I started tinyTowable.com to share things we've learned along the way that have worked well for us in hopes that the information would be of help to others.
However, since moving to Tennessee, I've gotten involved with new hobbies (you can check some out on my personal website at https://www.softrite.com) and we haven't camped very much. So, at the end of 2023, I made the tough decision to stop updating this website.
